The Green Inferno
It's been too long since Eli Roth was behind the camera, 2007's Planet Terror was his last directing job (Not including the uncredited segment of Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds) but it looks like the wait is nearly over. Roth is set to start shooting his new film, The Green Inferno, in november of this year.
The Green Inferno is thought to centre around a group of New York students who travel to the jungle's of Peru to protest and save the tribes that live in the Amazon. The tribes on the other hand, have different ideas for the group.
The Green Inferno will hopefully be in cinemas late next year/early 2014.

Cheap Thrills
Pat Healy and Sara Paxton were wonderful on screen together in Ti West's 'The Innkeepers' and it looks like this partnership is going to continue in the new film 'Cheap Thrills'.
Cheap Thrills tells "the story of a new father facing eviction who is reunited with a high school friend when a wealthy couple challenges them to the ultimate game of dare, testing the limits of physical pain and morality in exchange for cash.”
Filming is set to begin this week in LA.

The Sacrament
Last week Ti West (The Innkeepers) teased a new horror project that he hopes to film this year. Today we have learned a little more about, what is currently called, The Sacrament. West will be teaming up with producer Eli Roth (Hostel) who had this to say on the project: “We want to make this Ti’s first mainstream movie, without sacrificing the quality and unflinching horror of the subject matter”
During an interview with dailydead.com West revealed he had planned to direct a Sci-Fi film next but he had this to say on why he has chosen to stick with the horror genre: “The reality is that a science fiction movie is very expensive and is a long slow process. That’s very difficult for me, so while that process is going on, I’m going to do something else. Hopefully, we’ll be ready after that. You can’t cut corners when you’re building a spaceship. It costs what it costs and it can’t cost less. As we continue to put that together, I’m going to do a little side project… and I should say that “side project” is not actually a legitimate term. It’s going to be a legitimate project that I’m going to be filming this year.”
The Sacrament is set to start filming this month so expect to hear a lot more news in the coming weeks.

Wolf Creek 2
2005's Wolf Creek was a surprise hit and a hugely enjoyable horror film. Today we have learned that Wolf Creek 2 has officially been green lit.
Screen Australia have announced a $5.5 million investment into three Australian films, one of which is Wolf Creek 2 which will be directed again by Greg McLean. The official synopsis for Wolf Creek 2 is below:
" Lured by the promise of an authentic Australian holiday, backpackers Rutger, Katarina and Paul visit the notorious Wolf Creek crater. Their dream Outback adventure soon becomes a horrific reality when they encounter the site's most infamous local, the last man any traveler to the vast and isolated region ever wants to meet; Mick Taylor (returning actor John Jarratt). As the backpackers flee, Mick pursues them on an epic, white knuckled rampage across hostile wasteland. Only one will remain to be dragged back to his lair to witness the true magnitude of his monstrosity. And if the last man standing is to have any hope of surviving where no one has survived before, he'll have to use every ounce of cunning to outwit the man behind the monster, and become every bit as ruthless as the monster inside the man." The Bay
The popularity of found footage films has exploded since Paranormal Activity burst on to our screens in 2007, so much so, that academy award winning director Barry Levinson (Rain Man, Sleepers) is having a go with this years The Bay. Today we are pleased to announce we have the first trailer and poster. Produced by the team that brought us Paranormal Activity and Insidious, The Bay star's Kristen Connolly (Cabin in the Woods), Kether Donohue (Boy Wonder), Michael Beasley (I Love You Phillip Morris) and Christopher Denham (Shutter Island) and tells the story of :
"The quaint seaside town of Chesapeake Bay thrives on water; it is the lifeblood of the community. When two biological researchers from France find a staggering level of toxicity in the water, they attempt to alert the mayor, but he refuses to create a panic in the docile town. As a result, a deadly plague is unleashed, turning the people of Chesapeake Bay into hosts for a mutant breed of parasites that take control of their minds, and eventually their bodies. A brutal and harrowing creature feature for the 21st century, THE BAY chronicles the descent of a small town into absolute terror." (Via Collider.com)

Grave Encounters 2
Grave Encounters is the best found footage horror film. There I said it and Iw ill stick by it. I think it has better and more interesting characters than Paranormal Activity and outclassed Episode 50 in pretty much every way possible. You horror fans also fell in love and it has gained something of a cult following since it's DVD release. With this kind of success it was inevitable that it would become a franchise. A while ago we reported on the first synopsis that had been released but today we are pleased to announce we have the first trailer and poster.
We are all extremely excited about the second instalment in The Vicious Brothers hit franchise and from the first trailer it looks like another hit.

Evil Dead
The horror world has been divided in there opinions since Sony announced they plan to remake the Sam Raimi's classic "Evil Dead". Today we have finally received the official synopsis of the remake.
(Via Sony)
"In the much anticipated remake of the 1981 cult-hit horror film, five twenty-something friends become holed up in a remote cabin. When they discover a Book of the Dead, they unwittingly summon up dormant demons living in the nearby woods, which possess the youngsters in succession until only one is left intact to fight for survival."
I personally don't see the need for remakes, especially remakes of films that still have a strong following and are as much loved now as they were upon their initial release. Let's hope director Fede Alvarez can add his own twist on the classic cabin in the woods tale.

Texas Chainsaw 3D
In the past week we have had the official synopsis and the first teaser poster for new film to enter in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise and guess what! It's going to be in 3D! The new entry into the legendary franchise is seen as a direct sequel to the 1974 classic we all know and love. Below is the official synopsis:
Lionsgate’s TEXAS CHAINSAW 3D continues the legendary story of the homicidal Sawyer family, picking up where Tobe Hooper’s 1974 horror classic left off in Newt, Texas, where for decades people went missing without a trace. The townspeople long suspected the Sawyer family, owners of a local barbeque pit, were somehow responsible. Their suspicions were finally confirmed one hot summer day when a young woman escaped the Sawyer house following the brutal murders of her four friends. Word around the small town quickly spread, and a vigilante mob of enraged locals surrounded the Sawyer stronghold, burning it to the ground and killing every last member of the family – or so they thought. Plot details were recently revealed (And can be found below) and now rumours are spreading the internet that Radcliffe could have a small role that Hammer CEO Simon Oakes has not dismissed. House of Horror
After the release of Insidious it was revealed director James Wan had signed a deal with Icon Entertainment to produce 8 genre films. It was later revealed that House of Horror would be the first of these 8 films.
Javier Gutierrez (Before the Fall) was originally attached to direct but dropped out and Xavier Gens (Hitman) was brought on board but again dropped out. Finally it looks like Wan has got a director with Will Canon (Brotherhood) in talks to direct the picture. Mario Bello (Secret Window) has been attached to the project from the start and even with the various changes in director, this has not changed. House of Horror comes straight from the mind of James Wan and focuses on a house that may contain a gateway to hell:
"The House of Horror is a horror-thriller that centres around a gruesome crime scene. The film is shot with a blend of found footage, interrogation video, news cameras and classical cinematography. The film focuses on the aftermath of a horrific massacre; five college students, brutally murdered inside a decrepit, abandoned home.
We are thrown right into the mix as the lead Detective, Mark Lewis, and the police department’s psychologist, Dr. Elizabeth Klein, question a suspect. The young man at the centre is John Ascot, bound by handcuffs in a mobile command station. During the interrogation, John explains everything leading up to the deaths of his friends.
We discover that they were amateur ghost-hunters, seeking out paranormal phenomenon at the abandoned house believed to be haunted. What started out as a harmless activity turned into something truly terrifying and more than they ever could bargain for. John explains to the police that he isn’t responsible for his friends’ deaths, but rather, it was the house. He tells them he believes the house is a gateway to hell; a place of concentrated evil.
We slowly witness an eerie change in John’s demeanour through the course of the movie. Things take a disturbing turn when John hints at the notion that he is possessed by the Devil. Detective Lewis and Dr. Klein are forced to unravel the mystery of how John’s friends were murdered. All this leads to a stunning revelation about the man they’ve been interrogating and a gut-wrenching conclusion.”

Last week we reported that Halloween 2 would be coming to Blu-Ray in a special edition featuring the rare TV version of the film on a second disc. A number of you were obviously excited and rushed to pre-order the film and then contacted us saying there was trouble getting it shipped to the UK. We got in touch with Shout! Factory, who will be releasing the film, and they informed us that unfortunately the Blu-Rays will only be Region 1 (US and Canada). This is due to international licensing problems. We hope that these could be sorted out and the Blu-Ray's can be released in the UK some time soon.

The Woman in Black: Angels of Death
After the huge success of Hammer's The Woman in Black, a sequel was given the green-light back in April. At the time of the April announcement all we were told was that the film would called The Woman in Black: Angels of Death and Jon Croker, who served as a story editor on the first film, would be writing the script. Croker would be working with Susan Hill, author of the Woman in Black book, who has worked on the original story.
Today Shock Till You Drop revealed the first plot details:
Seized by the government and converted into a military mental hospital during World War II, the sudden arrival of disturbed soldiers to Eel Marsh Harsh has awoken its darkest inhabitant. Eve, a beautiful young nurse, is sent to the house to care for the patients but soon realizes she must save them from more than their own demons. Despite Eve’s efforts to stop her, one by one they fall victim to the Woman in Black.
No director has yet to be attached but we are confident Hammer can replicate the success of the first film.

“Set in ancient Rome, the ‘Zombies vs. Gladiators’ story begins when a shaman who is about to die in the Coliseum casts a spell that unleashes the world’s first zombies. It’s up to a gladiator to stop the spread of the zombie horde and save Rome.”
We look forward to seeing what Barker can do with this interesting premise.

Scream
What does the future hold for the Scream franchise? Wes Craven (Scream director) had reported an interest in making a fifth film after the success of of Scream 4. Reports today suggest that MTV are in talks to produce a Scream TV series. How would this work? The only way we can think is the typical: there's a killer killing people and at the end of the series we find out who it is... or do we. Basically a longer version of the film but we will be able to connect with the characters more, we will get possibly 11 weeks with these people. Here at Haddonfield we would love to see a fifth film helmed once again by Craven but we will see what the future holds for Ghostface but it does look very likely we will see him again.

WWE films have carved out a little niche in the action genre making films that feature their wrestlers basically doing what they do on the WWE show's but normally involving lots of guns. Titled The Green Inferno, Roth's film was given no plot details but the internet forums had a field day with the title alone and speculated that it would be a cannibalistic outing for the Hostel director.
Today Variety have reported the film "follows an idealistic student and a group of naive do-gooders who are captured by cannibalistic Indios after their plane crash lands in the Peruvian jungle"
Roth (Pictured) is a self confessed fan of cult classic Cannibal Holocaust and here at Haddonfield we wonder how gory and how far Roth is willing to go on the subject of cannibalism. Filming is expected to begin later this year in both Chile and Peru.

The Possession
The Possession is one of our most anticipated horror films of the year here at Haddonfield Horror. In recent weeks the advertising has really started to pick up pace, we have had the first trailer and the poster which looks amazing. Directed by Ole Bornedal (Nightwatch) and produced by horror master Sam Raimi (The Evil Dead), The Possession is the story of Clyde and Stephanie, who at first see nothing wrong with their youngest daughter's (Em) obsession with an antique wooden box purchased at a garden sale. Soon Em's behaviour becomes a cause for alarm and the couple soon discover that the wooden box was built to contain a dibbuk, a spirit that inhabits and eventually devours the human host that opens the box. The film has recently been given a R (Restricted in America equivalent to a 18 in the UK) certificate from the MPAA which seems to of angered the film-makers as they were aiming for a PG-13 rating. The film received it's R rating for "violence, terror and disturbing images". There is currently no word on what certificate it will receive in the UK. The Possession is due for release Friday 31st August.

Shadow People
Matthew Arnold's supernatural thriller, Shadow People, has been picked up Anchor Bay according to reports from The Hollywood Reporter. The film, which has recently screened at the prestigious Cannes film festival has an interesting premise:
SHADOW PEOPLE is a psychological-thriller that explores the rare medical phenomenon known as SUNDS(Sudden Unexplained Nocturnal Death Syndrome). Millions of people across the globe have had encounters with what they describe as dark, shadowy creatures that visit them at night. Sometimes horrifying, sometimes deadly, these nocturnal intruders have been described as early as man's first recorded writings. But what are they? And what do they want? Small town radio personality CHARLIE CROWE (Dallas Roberts) is thrust into the mystery when a strange caller relates a terrifying experience during Crowe's late night call-in show. At the same time, CDC Public Health Agent, SOPHIE LANCOMBE (Alison Eastwood), is hot on the trail of the cause of the rare medical condition known as SUNDS. Her investigations entwine her with Charlie's own discoveries and take them both into a dark world and a decades old cover-up about the phenomenon we now call, The Shadow People. Once you open the door to the mystery...you'll never sleep soundly again. (Via Darclight Films)
We look forward to seeing this as it has the potential to be a hugely enjoyable film. We will report again when a release date is set.

Carrie
The cast of the new Carrie movie, due for release next year, is really starting to take shape now. We already know that Chloe Grace Moretz will be playing the titular character who struggles with her telekinetic powers. Julianne Moore will play Margaret White, Carrie's psychotic mother. Bloody Disgusting have confirmed this morning that Ivana Baquero (Pans Labyrinth), Gabriella Wilde (The Three Musketeers) and Judy Greer (The Village) are all in advanced talks to star in Kimberly Peirce's remake of the 1976 classic based on the Stephen King novel. Carrie is set for release March 15th 2013.

Lovely Molly
If you love it or hate it, you have to admit that The Blair Witch Project was as ground braking as it was creepy. 13 years since it's release and the films co-director Eduardo Sanchez is back with another found footage and he plans on enhancing the format once again. Lovely Molly focuses on Molly, who is a newlywed that moves into her deceased fathers house. Once there she starts to experience strange things happening to her. Now a lot of people will be expecting this to be riding off the success of Paranormal Activity but remember Sanchez is in the director's chair, this will most certainly feature something new and extremely interesting.

Hatchet 3
When Adam Green released Hatchet in 2006, I was pleasantly surprised with just how good and true to the slasher film it was. It was a nice change to see an american horror film that, as the tagline says, It's not a remake. It's not a sequel and its not based on a Japanese one. If I remember right, I think I actually bought the film on DVD because of the tagline and hugely enjoyed it. It featured all the ingredients for a perfect slasher. One of the films main strong points was its excellent cast that included Slasher alumni Kane Hodder. Hatchet 2 came out in 2010 and was disappointing, it tried too hard to better the first film, and failed. Im glad to report that casting news is coming out of Hatchet 3, original members Danielle Harris and Kane Hodder are returning and will be joined by Derek Mears, Caroline Williams, Sean Whalen, Diane Goldner and Jason Trost. ON directing duties is BJ McDonnell, who is making his first film after working as cameraman on Hatchet. Hatchet 3 is currently in pre production.

The Apparition
Here at Haddonfield Horror we have been looking forward to The Apparition for a while now. The film takes a new and interesting take on the haunted house sub genre. Ghosts only exist if we want them to. Interesting. After watching the first trailer I believe it mixes a bit of the more successful horror films of recent years such as Paranormal Activity and The Grudge. The trailer looks interesting but it is in danger of been the type of film that promises scares and attempts to be different but ultimately fails. The poster though does give me hope, it's creepy although the tagline probably could be better. Once you believe, you die. The film star's Ashley Greene, Sebastian Stan and Tom Felton and will be helmed by first time director Todd Lincoln.
